Why Join WIB as a Non-Business Major?

I remember walking into my first-ever Women in Business (WIB) meeting at SDSU, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement. As a freshman looking to make new friends and explore different clubs, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. A girl from one of my classes had casually mentioned, “Hey, you should join Women in Business!”—so I figured, why not?

The meeting was a joint event with the Women in Finance Society, and the moment I stepped into the room, I was in awe. The energy was amazing! The room buzzed with ambitious, like-minded women, all eager to learn, grow, and support each other. It was the kind of atmosphere that made you want to jump right in—and that’s exactly what I did. I signed up on the spot and started chatting with other members. Everyone was so passionate about their goals, whether it was climbing the corporate ladder, starting their own business, or simply figuring things out. From that moment on, I knew I wouldn’t be missing a WIB meeting if I could help it.

Fast forward to my second semester, and plot twist—I realized being a business major wasn’t for me. I switched into the College of Arts and Letters, which led to one big question: Would I still belong in WIB, even as a non-business major?

I decided to trust my gut and keep attending meetings, and I’m so glad I did. WIB turned out to be so much more than just a club for business majors. The guest speakers alone were incredible—everyone from emerging fashion designers like Oddli and Dippin’ Daisy to SDSU business faculty shared insights that applied to any career path. Every meeting left me with something new to think about. WIB helped me sharpen my resume, upgrade my LinkedIn game, and learn how to network like a pro—all skills that should honestly be taught in every college at SDSU.

More importantly, WIB became a safe space where women across all majors could inspire and uplift one another. I can safely say that my experiences as a marketing intern and returning WIB member have made my time at SDSU all the more memorable! Switching majors didn’t change that—it just proved that WIB is for every woman looking to grow, no matter her path. So if you’re wondering whether to join, take this as your sign: Go for it! You never know how much a single meeting can change your college journey.
